Caring for your Ecology Cream

  • Store in an ambient, dry place. Ideally between 18-30°C and out of direct sunlight. If cream gets too cold, small lumps can form. A cream with small lumps is still absolutely fine to use, it will just need a little extra warming before use.
  • For external use only. Discontinue use if irritation occurs.
  • Ecology Creams are preservative free because they are anhydrous formulations (meaning there is no water in them). Keep them water-free by ensuring your fingers are clean and dry when applying cream and by replacing the lid tightly after use.
  • Ecology Creams are highly concentrated, with no filler ingredients, so only a small amount is needed.
  • The creams will melt nicely when you rub them between your fingers or palms (so don’t skip this step!) and they will absorb easily into your skin. Your skin should not feel greasy. If it does, you are using too much.
  • Consistency will change with temperature. Creams will become harder in cool climates and very soft in warmer climates.
  • For maximum nutrient density, use within 6 months of opening.

What's in this Sun-Exposed Skin Duo:

Here's what people are saying...

Marisa, verified buyer

Since starting to use this product, approximately 6 weeks ago, I have noticed that my skin does not look dull and feels more supple. I had a skin tag which felt rough, now feels smooth. I love the smell also. I have dark spots which are starting to look slightly less obvious. I’m happy to use this product.

Amanda, verified buyer

As with all Ecology’s moisturisers that I have tried this one was fabulous, my mature and sun damaged skin was super hydrated and felt so comforted , it really helps with my sun spots and makes them fade , would recommend this cream to everyone, loved it 💕

Shauna, verified buyer

I'm a child of the 60s with red hair, fair skin and freckles, and with that comes awful sun damage from a time when Mums didn't know the harm it does to little ones skin. As such, I have many skin cancers that have to be burnt off regularly. Until I found the Ecology range of creams I had tried EVERYTHING! Aloe vera, coconut oil and many chemist brands. Nothing soothes like your creams... Right from the start you can feel the itch disappear. It's also made my skin more supple, and I don't feel like a wrinkly old woman now. Am absolutely loving the new Hydrating Day Cream, so light! Thank you, it's the best, try it what have you got to lose, it's a natural product and that's important to me.

Deb, verified buyer

All the products I’ve tried are delightful. The winter Dream Cream has a slight edge with texture. My 68 year old skin lacked glow and has some age spots. A rough patch is no longer an issue, my spots are less noticeable, and importantly my skin feels smooth and soft that other products have not achieved. I actually am addicted morning and night; also have given up eye cream as this seems effective, so simple!

Julie, verified buyer

Having suffered from dry cracked skin all my life I have tried many creams, some better than others but nothing really solved the problem. Some I even felt made my skin drier causing me to use more & more to try & get some relief.
I have found Ecology creams do everything that they claim & I can’t see myself ever using anything else.
But it doesn’t stop there, not only is the product great it’s Australian made & in a fully recyclable container so it ticks all the boxes for me.
Thanks Crystal

Michelle, verified buyer

I really wished I had taken a before pic.
I have really noticed a brightness and suppleness of my skin , friends have made positive comments on have good my skin looks .
Also the sunspots on the back of my hands and face are fading . The creaminess of the product is lovely and is absorbed so easily without feeling cloying.
I tell everyone what I'm using and have done so from the very first cream I purchased.

Rebecca, verified buyer

I love that I’m using something natural on my skin. I have been using the Hydrating Dream Creams (I’ve bought them all & they are all fabulous) at night only as our days have been incredibly humid, so feel there’s no point during the day as I’m sweating it all off in a matter of minutes. I have freckly skin and have some pigmentation spots from my pregnancies that have been darkening again lately. I’ve noticed, since using the dream creams, that the pigmentation has faded and even an old red pimple scar above my eyebrow has significantly faded!
I love how soft and loved my skin feels and the fact that you need only the smallest amount! It’s a nightly ritual I look forward to everyday.

Suzanne, verified buyer

My skin is very badly sun damaged and was surprisingly pleased to notice that my skin is smoother and softer to touch. It also looks a lot better. It doesn’t feel greasy on my skin either. We recently went away in our camper and it got over 40 degrees but there was no sign of any greasiness on my skin and it didn’t melt in the tin either.

Rosslyn, verified buyer

I love the hemp and nerolina cream and have been using it for a few years now. It keeps my skin soft and supple. I get dry areas round my mouth and elbows, especially during winter, which disappear within a couple of days of daily use. The sun spots on my face have lightened and nearly disappeared thanks to this cream. My husband and grand daughters regularly use this as well. I am thinking of trying the winter cream now, just for a change and it sounds so good.

Angela, verified buyer

My skin is extremely dry, fine, sensitive and aging so finding a suitable cream is not easy. My brown age spots have disappeared since using the Ecology creams so my skin tone is much more even without makeup.
I've used a beautiful organic, plant-based ultra-rich cream for decades and this sits on my skin for longer before being absorbed so this other product feels more protective for the dry, cold Winter days we get in Tasmania.
However, for skin nourishing, the Winter Dream Cream, Winter Delicate is the best and is so easily absorbed. Thank you for catering for super-dry skin.

Karen, verified buyer

I came upon these products at a time when I was looking for some help for my skin. I’m post menopausal, spend a lot of time in the elements, and had just finished a treatment of Fluorourasil for sun damage, so my face was definitely not looking its best. I could see the difference in my skin within the first week, and it’s now much happier and calmer. I do still have my wrinkles, sadly, but my skin feels softer and is less blotchy.

FAQ

Tallow is beef or mutton fat that has been rendered at low temperatures to purify and stabilise it.

Grass-fed tallow is a nutrient-dense whole food that is solid at room temperature and unlike raw animal fat or suet, it can be stored for long periods without refrigeration.

For centuries, animal fats were used for cooking, to make candles, medicinal salves and poultices, to waterproof skin and garments, and for cosmetic purposes.

It’s only been relatively recently that animal fats fell out of fashion and we moved towards plant oils as a basis for both our nutritional intake and our skin care.

Ecology Skincare has been making our tallow-based creams for 12+ years now, long before animal fats started making a comeback in recent years.

The tallow in Ecology Skincare products is of the highest quality, it is the highly prized nutrient-dense fat from around the kidneys.

It comes from 100% grass-fed, grass-finished cattle raised on Australian farms. The cattle are free range and never confined to feedlot. No antibiotics ever and no added hormones or growth promotants.

Grass Fed Tallow is ultra rich in the same kinds of lipids that are found naturally in healthy looking skin.

This makes grass fed tallow highly skin compatible. Allowing it to absorb easily into the skin to support the protective barrier function of the skin, prevent moisture loss and soften, smooth and hydrate the look of skin.

In addition to these fatty acids, grass fed tallow contains Essential Fatty Acids (EFA’s) Alpha-Linolenic (Omega 3) and Linoleic acids (Omega 6),

These Essential Fatty Acids have a role in maintaining the structural integrity and barrier function of skin.

Grass-fed Tallow also contains fat-soluble Vitamins A, D, E & K.
All of which are particularly nurturing for the skin

Your skin shouldn’t feel greasy. These creams are highly skin compatible, as they contain a lot of the same fatty acids that are found naturally in your skin and in your skin oils.

But these creams are rich and highly concentrated - much more so than a big-brand moisturiser you could be used to using that has water as its first ingredient.

These creams are 100% natural fats and oils so little will go a very long way!

If your skin is feeling greasy - then you are using too much.

These creams are softly whipped and will melt nicely when you rub a finger swipe between your fingers or palms to warm it, pat your skin over the whole area you want to moisturise, then gently massage in.

Doing this, your cream should absorb easily into your skin to deeply moisturise, soften and protect, leaving your skin looking and feeling soft and silky smooth.

The Ecology Creams are 100% natural products.
We recommend you use your Ecology Cream within 6 months of opening to ensure maximum freshness and nutrient density.

A large majority of conventional moisturising creams contain between 50% and 85% water (check the back of your skincare products, most of the time the first ingredient listed is water or ‘aqua’.)
Water is the perfect environment for microbes (bacteria, moulds and fungus) to grow in and most microbes need water to survive!
The Ecology Creams are anhydrous formulations, meaning there is no water in them.
No water means there is no need for synthetic or “natural” preservatives in these creams.
It also means there is no need for all of the “filler” ingredients like emusifiers, thickeners and stabilisers that are usually added to conventional formulations to make the oil and water play nicely together and remain in a stable, cohesive formulation.
As all of the ingredients in the Ecology Creams are skin-active, the creams are highly concentrated and super nutrient-dense, so a little goes a really long way!

We use either an organic Rosemary Leaf Extract or a natural Tocopherol (Vitamin E as our antioxidants

These help to keep the animal fats and cold pressed oils fresh and stable in the formulation - including a formulation that is lightly whipped.

You can also help to extend the shelf-life of your cream and keep it as fresh as possible by storing it in a cool dry place, ensuring your fingers are clean and dry when applying cream and by replacing the lid tightly after use.

Anyone with dry skin, sensitive skin, sun-damaged skin or skin that's easily irritated or prone to redness, dullness, itching, flaking. Anyone who's wanting to restore their skin's barrier function and have healthy-looking, soft, smooth and supple skin at every age. Anyone who's skin needs a little extra TLC

Yes! ...these creams can be used on the face, hands, arms, legs - anywhere that needs moisturising and some TLC

The main reasons people avoid sunflower oil and other seed oils are concerns around the high heat industrial processing that strips nutrients and antioxidants from the oils and leaves them more prone to oxidation, plus a higher ratio of omega 6's vs. omega 3's.

And we get it! ...we also avoid consuming seed oils in our diet and have done for the last 12+ years.

But worse than any seed oil is an oxidised oil. We all want to avoid putting products containing oxidised oils on our skin - which is why we add an antioxidant to our formulations.

From day 1 we've used a rosemary leaf extract in our creams to keep the fats and oils fresh

(well formulated products containing plant oils and essential oils should have an antioxidant like rosemary leaf extract or Vitamin E to help prevent oxidation - if you take a look at any well formulated balm or lip balm you'll see these ingredients)

The rosemary leaf extract we use is standardised with cold pressed organic sunflower oil to improve it's antioxidant activity and reduce volatile compounds (making it safer for sensitive skin)

Sunflower is naturally high in Vitamin E and cold pressed sunflower oil contains relatively high amounts of Vitamin E which helps to prevent oxidation of the more fragile elements in cold-pressed sunflower oil.

(and of course one of the major concerns with industrialised seed oils is around oxidation of the omega 6's - a very real concern when this Vitamin E is stripped out - but not as much of a concern with cold pressed seed oils that retain their natural antioxidants)

This standardisation with sunflower oil is something that we've come to understand in the last year or 2, which is why we've updated our labels to reflect the presence of sunflower oil.

Rosemary leaf extract is our lowest volume ingredient, so the sunflower oil in our creams (apart from the Soothing Baby Cream) is at a very low concentration of 0.1% of the total cream.

While this amount is tiny, now that we know it's there, we've updated our website ingredients and our labels.

The short answer is that context and processing matter in the question of "are all seed oils bad for you?"

The main reasons people avoid seed oils are concerns around the high heat industrial processing that strips nutrients and antioxidants from the oils and leaves them more prone to oxidation, plus a higher ratio of omega 6's vs. omega 3's.

And we get it! ...we also avoid consuming seed oils in our diet and have done for the last 12+ years.

But the seed oils used in cosmetics are different to the industrialised seed oils that are mass produced for the food industry - so you can’t tar them with the same brush.

The seed oils used in cosmetics and in our creams are typically organic and cold pressed, so they’re not subjected to the same high heat, solvent extraction as mass produced seed oils for the food industry.

One critical outcome of this difference in processing is that cold-pressed and CO2 extracted seed oils retain all of their vitamins and antioxidants that normally get stripped out with industrialised processing.

And the Rosehip Seed Extract we've chosen for these Dream Creams is extracted using supercritical volcanically sourced CO2. This is a step up from cold pressing as it ensures a more stable end product and more bioactive components are present - including carotenoids and other antioxidants.

This context and processing matters.
I would definitely avoid putting highly processed, industrialised seed oils on my skin, but cold pressed seed oils are beneficial for skin when balanced with healthy fats, lipids and other fatty acids.

Here's why - Omega 6's are actually critical for our skin health (especially linoleic acid and gamma linoleic acid)

Without linoleic acid our skin would become thick, scaly, rash and our skin barrier function would be seriously compromised. Omega 6's make up an essential part of ceramides - one of the 3 main components of a healthy skin barrier alongside fatty acids and cholesterol.

And it's always important to remember the balance - omega 6's are only bad when they are extremely overbalancing omega 3's.

Omega 3's, 6's and 9's should not be avoided on the skin as they are all critical for healthy skin, especially in conjunction with the other fatty acids and cholesterol found in grass-fed tallow.

On the sunflower oil we use in our Soothing Baby Cream - we use a high oleic acid type of organic cold pressed sunflower oil in our Soothing Baby Cream (this is more commonly used in cosmetics as it's more stable) and the fatty acid profile reads like this: oleic acid 84%, stearic acid 2%, palmitic acid 4% and linoleic acid 7%

...so the amount of omega 6's in this sunflower oil is much lower than that found in mass produced seed oils for the food industry.

In addition to all of this - when we apply products containing omega 6's on our skin, they're not going through first pass metabolism in the liver and being turned into the more inflammatory arachidonic acid.

And lastly - all well formulated products containing plant oils, butters and essential oils should contain an antioxidant to protect the oils from oxidation and our creams are no different. We formulate all of our creams with a rosemary leaf extract that acts as an antioxidant.

Pheeww... hope that answers your question!

just lovely

I am 74 years young and have oily skin, All my life I have struggled to find a moisturizer that does not oil up my face. I was sceptical about this product as it has a tallow base but thought it worth a try. The results are amazing, I use the smallest amount possible, warm it up by rubbing my fingers together and pat onto the face and smooth in as recommended. It goes a long way and feels lovely on the skin. My skin feels smooth and I am seeing the age spots and sun damage lessen ( four weeks) .My dermatologist wants me to have a skin peel to lessen the marks but I will see how this pans out. Am also using it now on the back of my hands. Great under makeup with no oiliness. Highly recommend this cream, thank you Ecology.

Best there is

I have a standing subscription of many years for four different varieties of the nourishing creams. My skin, especially on my legs is extremely dry and this is the only treatment that softens all day and night as well as alleviating itchiness. Highly recommend

Daily Moisturiser with Hemp and Nerolina

I bought a similar product from you a few years ago. This product seems to be more refined, smoother and easier to use. I enjoyed the former product that is why I wanted to try it again. I love that it is natural and chemical free. It is a great moisturiser. My skin gets very dry without it.

One of each please :)

I believe I have at least one of each tallow product now. On my last visit to Melbourne, I had my 88 year old father patiently sitting in the car while I popped in with frozen fingers to sample and stock up before my return to Queensland. I love to just go with the day’s vibe in choosing which one to apply, but must admit my favourite is Hemp and Nerolina for the cooler days and any of the 3 Rosehip - Pomegranate, Raspberry or Avocado for the warmer days. They make my skin feel lush and to use one of my daughters words “Dewy” which is apparently the ultimate skin look and feel. Keep up the great work, loving the products.

Hydrating Goodness

I have been using Ecology Tallow Moisturisers for about 10 years and I find my skin responds really well to them. I am 57 and I love how it's balmy and soaks straight in. I wear BB cream over the top with no issue. This one smells a little too rosy for me, I was hoping the Nerolina would give it a citrusy scent but perhaps I am smelling the Hemp more? Having said that, the scent does not linger nor interfere with my perfume. If you prefer no fragrance there are plenty to choose from, including the Baby one, which I usually buy.

I love it

It looks like it's going to be heavy and greasy on my skin, but absorbs fast and make my skin feel soft and hydrated. The little trial size tins where also a great size for hydrating my skin or long haul flights and for weekend away. This is my second purchase and I will be buying again when this runs low.
