We wanted to bring the essence of summer into your skincare routine and give your skin and mood what you need, when you need it.

Summer is a time of new beginnings, adventure, excitement and the sense that the possibilities are endless…

With this in mind, we spent hours carefully selecting and sourcing high quality antioxidant-rich ingredients to feel lighter on the skin than other tallow-based moisturisers, while still deeply hydrating dull skin in the summer heat and humidity. And to excite your senses during your morning routine with a fresh, citrus aroma.

And like slices of lemon dropped in a glass of ice water, this luxurious cream will be limited to the season of summer – here today, gone tomorrow.

The main difference is aroma:

The yellow Summer Sunrise contains essential oils of orange peel, mandarin peel and lemon peel as blended for us by a third generation perfumer and we’ve added a coconut fruit extract – so it has a fresh citrus aroma

The teal Summer Splice contains essential oils of lemon scented myrtle, lime, orange peel and cedarwood atlas as blended for us by a third generation perfumer and we’ve added vanilla bean extract – so it has a sweet but zesty citrus aroma.

The white Summer Delicate does not contain any essential oils.
This is not to say it’s doesn’t have a distinct aroma – any natural product without masking agents has the natural aroma of the ingredients in the product. And the antioxidant-rich rosehip seed extract we’ve chosen has a kind of earthy, herbal, grassy hay-type aroma.

To this we’ve added a small amount of coconut fruit extract, so the Summer Delicate has a mild, tea-like aroma with a smidgey-hint of coconut.

And in feel on the skin:

The richness of the coconut fruit extract gives the yellow Summer Sunrise and the Summer Delicate a slightly dewier finish on the skin than the teal Summer Splice

Grass-fed Beef Tallow**, Jojoba Oil*, Kukui Nut Oil*, Rosehip Seed Extract*, Red Raspberry Seed Extract, Coconut Fruit Extract*, Tocopherol (Vitamin E)^, Orange Peel Oil, Mandarin Peel Oil, Lemon Peel Oil, Rosemary Leaf Extract*

Caring for your Ecology Cream

  • Store in an ambient, dry place. Ideally between 18-30°C and out of direct sunlight. If cream gets too cold, small lumps can form. A cream with small lumps is still absolutely fine to use, it will just need a little extra warming before use.
  • For external use only. Discontinue use if irritation occurs.
  • Ecology Creams are preservative free because they are anhydrous formulations (meaning there is no water in them). Keep them water-free by ensuring your fingers are clean and dry when applying cream and by replacing the lid tightly after use.
  • Ecology Creams are highly concentrated, with no filler ingredients, so only a small amount is needed.
  • The creams will melt nicely when you rub them between your fingers or palms (so don’t skip this step!) and they will absorb easily into your skin. Your skin should not feel greasy. If it does, you are using too much.
  • Consistency will change with temperature. Creams will become harder in cool climates and very soft in warmer climates.
  • For maximum nutrient density, use within 6 months of opening.

**This moisturiser does NOT have a SPF factor, please take your usual precautions to protect your skin from excess sun exposure**

Made with nutrient-dense, antioxidant-rich ingredients

Tallow from Grass-fed Cows

Grass-fed tallow deeply moisturises and softens skin. It's ultra rich in the same kinds of healthy fats and lipids found naturally in healthy looking skin, contains Vitamins A, D, E, & K and is balanced in essential fatty acids.

Our tallow comes from 100% grass-fed, free range - never confined to feedlot - pasture raised cows. No antibiotics ever and no added hormones or growth promotants

Organic Rosehip Seed Extract

We chose Rosehip Seed Extract for this cream because it's deeply moisturising and hydrating for dry, mature and sun damaged skin. It contains skin-nourishing Vitamins A & E and essential fatty acids, plus carotenoids to help protect skin from environmental stressors. And it's been shown to support skin elasticity, brighten look of dull skin, improve natural skin colour and even skin tone.

Red Raspberry Seed Extract

We chose Red Raspberry Seed Extract for this cream because it's a light weight, non-sticky oil that's soothing, calming and moisturising for dry, mature, problem and breakout prone skin. It contains skin-nourishing essential fatty acids plus Vitamins E & pro-vitamin A, antioxidants, polyphenols and phytosterols to protect and repair skin's barrier function. It contains skin-nourishing essential fatty acids to support skin barrier function and soothe sun-kissed skin. And it's been shown to be deeply moisturising and soothing for dry, sensitive, easily irritated skin and sun-kissed skin.

FAQ

We formulated these Dream Creams with Summer in mind - from the richness of the cream, to the high quality oils and extracts we selected, to the aroma blend that was expertly crafted by a third generation perfumer.

So like a fresh slice of lime dropped in a glass of iced water, these creams will be here for the season of summer then gone.

If you like them and can't live without them, let us know and we'll take this into consideration for future decisions and formulations.

The organic rosehip seed extract we've sourced is extracted using supercritical volcanically sourced CO2. This is a step up from cold pressing as it ensures a more stable end product and more bioactive components are present - including carotenoids - as seen by it's vibrant colour and potent aroma.

The high level of carotenoids in this organic rosehip seed extract gives the Hydrating Dream Cream it's sunny yellow colour.

Yes, this cream contains a blend of essential oils that was created especially for us by a third generation perfumer at a dosage that meets the IFRA standards for safety.

It contains essential oils of lemon scented myrtle, lime, orange peel and cedarwood atlas and we've added vanilla bean extract - so it has a sweet, citrus aroma.

All of the Summer limited edition blends contain our hero ingredients - grass-fed tallow and organic jojoba oil along with a high quality and potent organic rosehip seed extract, a red raspberry seed extract and organic kukui nut oil.

The main difference is aroma:

The yellow Summer Sunrise contains essential oils of orange peel, mandarin peel and lemon peel as blended for us by a third generation perfumer and we've added a coconut fruit extract - so it has a fresh citrus aroma

The teal Summer Splice contains essential oils of lemon scented myrtle, lime, orange peel and cedarwood atlas as blended for us by a third generation perfumer and we've added vanilla bean extract - so it has a sweet but zesty citrus aroma.

The white Summer Delicate does not contain any essential oils.

No, this cream does NOT have a SPF factor. Please take your usual precautions to protect your skin from excess sun exposure

We often get asked about making a sunscreen or a moisturiser with an SPF and we would so love to have this kind of option for you all...

But sunscreens and moisturisers with an SPF are notoriously difficult to formulate to ensure the zinc is uniformly distributed throughout the product - stays uniformly distributed - and will work as intended when applied to the skin under different conditions.

We care about the safety of our customers and if you follow the news, there are stories of even big brands who have problems with this and it is too important to muck up or treat cavalierly.

Safe sunscreens need to be made in a TGA registered facility and be registered with the TGA with an L number. We do make our products in our own purpose-built, clean room manufacturing space, but it is not TGA registered.

We formulated these creams with summer in mind - so they are at the lightest end of our range for richness.

These summer edition creams will feel lighter on the skin than all of our other moisturisers - perfect for summer heat and humidity.

The coconut fruit extract in the yellow Summer Sunrise and white Summer Delicate gives those creams a slightly dewier finish on the skin than this teal Summer Splice

Anyone with mature skin, dull skin, skin prone to sun damage or needing after sun care for sun exposed skin

Yes! ...these creams can be used on the face, hands, arms, legs - anywhere that needs moisturising and some TLC

The main reasons people avoid sunflower oil and other seed oils are concerns around the high heat industrial processing that strips nutrients and antioxidants from the oils and leaves them more prone to oxidation, plus a higher ratio of omega 6's vs. omega 3's.

And we get it! ...we also avoid consuming seed oils in our diet and have done for the last 12+ years.

But worse than any seed oil is an oxidised oil. We all want to avoid putting products containing oxidised oils on our skin - which is why we add an antioxidant to our formulations.

From day 1 we've used a rosemary leaf extract in our creams to keep the fats and oils fresh

(well formulated products containing plant oils and essential oils should have an antioxidant like rosemary leaf extract or Vitamin E to help prevent oxidation - if you take a look at any well formulated balm or lip balm you'll see these ingredients)

The rosemary leaf extract we use is standardised with cold pressed organic sunflower oil to improve it's antioxidant activity and reduce volatile compounds (making it safer for sensitive skin)

Sunflower is naturally high in Vitamin E and cold pressed sunflower oil contains relatively high amounts of Vitamin E which helps to prevent oxidation of the more fragile elements in cold-pressed sunflower oil.

(and of course one of the major concerns with industrialised seed oils is around oxidation of the omega 6's - a very real concern when this Vitamin E is stripped out - but not as much of a concern with cold pressed seed oils that retain their natural antioxidants)

This standardisation with sunflower oil is something that we've come to understand in the last year or 2, which is why we've updated our labels to reflect the presence of sunflower oil.

Rosemary leaf extract is our lowest volume ingredient, so the sunflower oil in our creams (apart from the Soothing Baby Cream) is at a very low concentration of 0.1% of the total cream.

While this amount is tiny, now that we know it's there, we've updated our website ingredients and our labels.

The short answer is that context and processing matter in the question of "are all seed oils bad for you?"

The main reasons people avoid seed oils are concerns around the high heat industrial processing that strips nutrients and antioxidants from the oils and leaves them more prone to oxidation, plus a higher ratio of omega 6's vs. omega 3's.

And we get it! ...we also avoid consuming seed oils in our diet and have done for the last 12+ years.

But the seed oils used in cosmetics are different to the industrialised seed oils that are mass produced for the food industry - so you can’t tar them with the same brush.

The seed oils used in cosmetics and in our creams are typically organic and cold pressed, so they’re not subjected to the same high heat, solvent extraction as mass produced seed oils for the food industry.

One critical outcome of this difference in processing is that cold-pressed and CO2 extracted seed oils retain all of their vitamins and antioxidants that normally get stripped out with industrialised processing.

And the Rosehip Seed Extract we've chosen for these Dream Creams is extracted using supercritical volcanically sourced CO2. This is a step up from cold pressing as it ensures a more stable end product and more bioactive components are present - including carotenoids and other antioxidants.

This context and processing matters.
I would definitely avoid putting highly processed, industrialised seed oils on my skin, but cold pressed seed oils are beneficial for skin when balanced with healthy fats, lipids and other fatty acids.

Here's why - Omega 6's are actually critical for our skin health (especially linoleic acid and gamma linoleic acid)

Without linoleic acid our skin would become thick, scaly, rash and our skin barrier function would be seriously compromised. Omega 6's make up an essential part of ceramides - one of the 3 main components of a healthy skin barrier alongside fatty acids and cholesterol.

And it's always important to remember the balance - omega 6's are only bad when they are extremely overbalancing omega 3's.

Omega 3's, 6's and 9's should not be avoided on the skin as they are all critical for healthy skin, especially in conjunction with the other fatty acids and cholesterol found in grass-fed tallow.

On the sunflower oil we use in our Soothing Baby Cream - we use a high oleic acid type of organic cold pressed sunflower oil in our Soothing Baby Cream (this is more commonly used in cosmetics as it's more stable) and the fatty acid profile reads like this: oleic acid 84%, stearic acid 2%, palmitic acid 4% and linoleic acid 7%

...so the amount of omega 6's in this sunflower oil is much lower than that found in mass produced seed oils for the food industry.

In addition to all of this - when we apply products containing omega 6's on our skin, they're not going through first pass metabolism in the liver and being turned into the more inflammatory arachidonic acid.

And lastly - all well formulated products containing plant oils, butters and essential oils should contain an antioxidant to protect the oils from oxidation and our creams are no different. We formulate all of our creams with a rosemary leaf extract that acts as an antioxidant.

Pheeww... hope that answers your question!
